Riccarton bowling clubs to join forces

The Riccarton Domain Winter Bowling Club and the Riccarton Racecourse Bowling Club will share a new all-weather, synthetic green.

Riccarton Domain Winter Bowling Club will surrender their existing lease on Upper Riccarton Domain, where presently there is a clubroom facility and two all weather greens.

This Friday the Chairman of the Riccarton Wigram Community Board, Mike Mora, will present a cheque for $105,000 to representatives from the two clubs. The money will go towards the establishment of the new green at the Riccarton Racecourse Bowling Club.

Rod Whearty, Parks & Waterways Area Advocate, says that the area vacated by the Riccarton Domain Winter Bowling Club was to be retained as open space, freely available to the public. “A key objective for relocating the club was to improve visibility and sight lines into the park from Yaldhurst Road, as part of the Council’s ‘Safer Parks’ policy.”
