Pupils Develop Community Resource Pupils from Cobham Intermediate School have produced a bookmark and a reference card that lists support organisations and agencies in Christchurch available to youth and adults. Twelve pupils from a Year 8 class at the school worked with Christchurch City Council Community Development Advisor Paul McOscar to develop the resources. “The pupils co-ordinated the entire process. We started by doing some research about what was needed in the local area. It was discovered that people often didn’t know what support organisations and services were available in the community. From there, the pupils came up with designs for the bookmark and reference card. They also had to decide how to distribute the resources,” says Mr McOscar. The pupils will deliver the reference card, with the help of parents and the Fendalton Walk N Talk group, to each mailbox in the area. The card lists community support information and is aimed at adults and parents. Mr McOscar will deliver the bookmarks, which are aimed at youth, free to all schools in the Fendalton/Waimairi ward. “The artwork for both resources is colourful and vibrant, something that people will want to keep in a handy place for reference,” he says. The project has the support of the Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board’s Strengthening Communities Project Team and the North Christchurch Citizens Advice Bureau |
