Kids In Town Every Thursday

Kids In Town, Every Thursday during term time in City Mall Amphitheatre, Cashel Street, 12 to 1pm. FREE

This year, school children from all over the city will again have their chance to perform in the Kids In Town programme, organised by Christchurch City Council Leisure. Every Thursday lunchtime the City Mall Amphitheatre comes alive with the talent of Primary and Intermediate pupils as they entertain the inner city business community.

‘We’ve had some wonderful performances from children of all ages’ says Events Team member Jo Eade, ‘Some schools choose cultural performances, some decide to present a musical performance – whatever they do, we get a chance to see a lot of talent onstage!’.

Schools often begin rehearsing their concert weeks in advance, and teachers have the challenge of coping with dozens of excited children on the day of performance.

‘Many of the teachers have clearly bought the very best out of their pupils’ says Ms Eade. ‘The children obviously enjoy what they do, and seem to really like the opportunity to get out of the classroom to perform’.

Over the next five weeks, the following schools will perform:

  • April 18th, Cashmere Primary School
  • May 2nd, Waimairi School
  • May 9th, Beckenham Primary School
  • May 16th, Merrin Primary School Our Lady of Assumption
