Four Weeks Until Penny Sport Cycles Park To Pier Family Fun Bike Ride!

10am, Sunday October 28th, 2001

In one month’s time cyclists of all ages and abilities will be enjoying a leisurely cycle from North Hagley Park to New Brighton as they take part in the Penny Sport Cycles Park to Pier Bike Ride.

Last year over 2,000 cyclists made the journey, on a beautiful Christchurch day, some for fitness, some for prizes, but all for fun in what has become an established family event in Christchurch – a city well known for it’s cycleways and positive attitude to cycling.

Penny Sport Cycles are at the forefront of the cycle revolution, "This is the second year that we have been the major sponsor of this Council run event, and we are expecting more participants than ever" says Barry Calder, owner of Penny Sport Cycles.

"Obviously we are in the business of selling bikes, but we also feel strongly about the benefits of biking in relation to personal health and the environment", he says.

The 15 kilometre route will be well sign-posted and peopled with marshals and safety crew.

Participants who register before the ride could win a brand new Eclipse bike, Hoyts movie passes, or a chance to relax in the sumptuous environment of the cities premier hotel – The Parkroyal Christchurch – complete with dinner or breakfast. Riders must be present at the prize draw (around 11.30am) next to the New Brighton Library.

Registration forms will be available throughout October at Penny Sport Cycles: Corner reception of Lite FM.

This event is proudly provided by Christchurch City Council Leisure and is supported by Penny Sport Cycles, Parkroyal Christchurch, Hoyts and Lite FM.
