Goodies For Not Littering

Children seen putting litter in refuse bins in the central city during the coming school holidays will get rewarded.

Litter Patrol Officers responsible for the inner city will have something special for children during the upcoming school holidays.

As part of a campaign by the Christchurch City Council and Metallic Sweeping Ltd to encourage and reward litter awareness, the Litter Patrol Officers will be handing out balloons and sweets to children who they have recognised as acting responsibly in regard to litter.

So children who are seen using the rubbish bins to dispose of their litter will be rewarded with sweets, and red and black balloons from the Litter Patrol Officers.

These officers are noticeable in their prominent red-and-black tracksuits with the same coloured trolleys. The trolleys will have red-and-black balloons tied to them as they walk the inner city streets.

The promotion will start on Monday 25 September, and run until Friday 5 October 2001.

It is hoped that this rewarding measure will create greater awareness among the community about the importance of using the litter bins provided to dispose of litter and help in keeping, not only the central city, but the entire city as a whole clean.
