‘Get Behind Parade’ Says Mayor

Christchurch’s Mayor Garry Moore wants a bumper Ranfurly Shield parade on Saturday morning.

He said today that he was pleased that the City Council, along with the Canterbury Rugby Supporters’ Club, had been able to get a parade organised before the Canterbury-Wellington clash on Saturday afternoon at Jade Stadium.

“I hope everyone will turn out and line Colombo Street and that we get many floats taking part,” he said.

“We must show our support for the Canterbury team and I hope most people will be wearing the red and black. A parade like this is good for the city and province and urge everyone to get behind it,” he said.

The parade will start at 11am from the Moorhouse Avenue overbridge and travel north to Cathedral Square. It is estimated to arrive about 11.45am.

The road will be closed for the parade.

The weather forecast for Saturday is good and already registrations for floats to take part are building up.
