Charleston’s Plan Ready
An easy-to-read Charleston Neighbourhood Plan is available for residents’ scrutiny.
The Plan is to help retain and enhance the physical and social character of Charleston. It draws together City Council-based projects and potential community initiatives.
The Plan has a number of specific objectives:
- To improve the appearance and character of the neighbourhood areas through the enhancement of streets and open spaces
- To improve traffic circulation and safety
- To improve pedestrian and landscape links between community facilities
- To encourage good building and site design that are appropriate for the location
- To provide a basis for both publicly funded projects and community self help
- To provide a basis upon which various interests can be co-ordinated.
The printed Plan has two parts:
- One provides a catalogue of ideas through which the Neighbourhood Plan aims can be implemented. These ideas may be adapted to suit a particular location or specific situation.
- Side Two is a map of the neighbourhood, which shows proposals for certain areas, to be completed in the next six years.
The Charleston Neighbourhood Improvement Plan is available for viewing at the Linwood Library, 10 Cranley Street, the Linwood Service Centre, 180 Smith Street, the Phillipstown Community Centre or Civic Offices.
The Plan is free to community groups or is $5 for a personal copy from Joanne at the City Council: 941 8953.
