Voting Returns Top 40 Per Cent

So far 91,600 voting papers have been returned to the Electoral Office in the Christchurch City Council elections.

This represents 40.12 per cent of the 227,793 voting papers sent out.

Voting will close at noon on Saturday.

People voting from now on must deliver their voting papers to the Civic Offices, 163 Tuam Street, where a ballot box for returned votes is located on the ground floor. The Civic Offices will be open for the return of voting papers up to noon on Saturday.

Some callers to the City Council have indicated that they hoped to vote on Saturday at polling booths.

They were told that the vote is by post only.

The Waimairi ward continues to lead the voting returns with 46.76 per cent. Wards yet to reach 40 per cent are Hagley (29.40 per cent), Pegasus (39.79 per cent), Riccarton (37.75 per cent) and Shirley (35.96 per cent).
