Voting Likely To Reach 50 Per Cent
A big increase in the number of voting papers returned in the last few days indicates the Christchurch City Council’s elections will see a final return rate of about 50 per cent.
This was said today by the Christchurch Electoral Officer, Max Robertson, who added about 11,400 voting papers (5 per cent) were returned today, taking the total to 103,000 (45.21 per cent) out of the 227,793 papers sent out.
A steady of voters delivered their voting papers to the City Council’s Civic Office, Tuam Street, today having missed the post yesterday. Mr. Robertson said the results of the preliminary count would be released about 5pm tomorrow.
Voting papers can be delivered to the Civic Offices, 163 Tuam Street, up to noon tomorrow when the poll closes. The results will also be placed on the Council’s web site: www.ccc.govt.nz/Elections/2001 Mr. Robertson said he would release the results for the Mayoral, Council and Community Board issues tomorrow. Results for the Canterbury Regional Council and the Canterbury District Health Board issues will be separately released by the bodies’ own electoral officers.
