New Items For Kerbside Recycling Collection
Two new types of material, familiar to households, join those items which can be put out for recycling at the kerbside these are:
Collection Of The New Materials Starts On 5 November Real Recycling "The reason why these materials can now be collected is because we have
found a market for them, says Chair of the Recovered Materials Foundation (RMF),
Cr Denis ORourke. "The RMF is in the business of developing secure,
sustainable markets, material by material which is why we only collect what
we can use, and why non-recyclable items are left behind in crates. Its
what we are calling real recycling. Residents of Christchurch and
Waimakariri can have confidence that what is collected at the kerbside is being
recycled and wont end up at the landfill." Information Guide An information guide giving details of all the material which can be recycled,
including the new and existing items, is being distributed to households this
week:
Residents who have not received their copy can contact:
and a copy will be sent to them. Truck Collections and Times As the volume of recyclables is expected to rise significantly the method of
collection is altering. Separate trucks are collecting paper and corrugated
cardboard which means city streets will see three different trucks collecting
refuse, paper/cardboard and As the different trucks may have different routes, collection times may vary
so it is essential that refuse bags, recycling crates, plastic shopping bags
of paper and tied corrugated cardboard are out in the streets by 7.30am (the
day for collection remains unchanged). For further information: Cr Denis ORourke,
