On-line reviewing for avid readers
Readers who are bursting to share their opinions of the books they’re reading can now do so from the comfort of their computer terminals.
Christchurch City Libraries is one of the first in New Zealand to host a book discussion group via its web page, giving readers the opportunity to talk about books with other readers online.
“This is a service for anyone who has ever been frustrated at not being able to talk about a book they’ve just read because their family or friends haven’t read it, “ says Christchurch City Libraries Manager Sue Sutherland. “Now they can share their views with readers world wide.” Readers have two options. By signing up on the Library’s Listserv they can post their opinions and comments on a book and receive feedback from other readers each evening. A further visit to the Listserv is not necessary to check responses as these will be automatically emailed to them each evening. The other way readers can participate is through the Library’s web discussion board. Access to the WebBoard is through the Library’s website. Readers can place their own opinion at any time of the day on the board and it will go live on the internet immediately. Interested readers can join by logging on to http://library.christchurch.org.nz/Booktalk. “If they don’t have access at home, readers can come into their local library and use the computers there to take part,” says Sue Sutherland.
