Margaret Mahy fans in for a treat

Fans of well-known children’s author Margaret Mahy have two upcoming events where they can meet her.

It has been a successful year for Margaret. She is this year’s winner of the Esther Glen Medal for her book - 24 hours. This award is presented for the most distinguished contribution to New Zealand’s children’s literature.

Two of Margaret’s stories - The five sisters and A busy day for a good grandmother will be brought to life in a Bookgig to be held at the Christchurch Drama Centre tomorrow. Directed by Rosie Belton, Drama Centre students will perform the stories to school students who will have the opportunity to ask the performers and the author questions.

Margaret’s new book The riddle of the frozen phantom is being launched at Central City Library on the 14 November.

"We are delighted to be involved in the presentation of Margaret’s work to the public," says Bill Nagelkerke, Children’s and Young Adults’ Services Coordinator for Christchurch City Libraries.

"The Bookgig and the launch of her new book are two really good opportunities to meet with Margaret and find out more about her work. The Bookgig will add the excitement of live performance," says Bill Nagelkerke.

Photo opportunity: Christchurch Drama Centre, Tuesday 6 November, 11am - 12noon.
