The period for submissions to be made on the Christchurch City Councils proposed new waste target has been extended.
Submissions will now be received up to 4pm on Friday 11 May.
At its March meeting the Council decided to give notice that it intended to amend its waste reduction target as adopted in 1998.
The Councils proposed new target will be to have zero waste to landfill as soon as possible, taking into account social, legal and economic constraints with a minimum reduction of 50 per cent reduction of waste to landfill between 2000 to 2020. In addition it is also proposed to adopt a further target of zero organics (food and garden waste) to landfill by 2010.
Following a hearing of submissions by a Subcommittee on 16 May, the Councils City Water and Waste Unit will present a report on the public submissions to the 24 May Council meeting.
