Christchurch City Council Media Release 21 May 2001

Tram Trip, Night Tales And Treasure Trove

Special treats are in store for children who take part in this year’s Books and Beyond Festival from 30 May - 4 June.

Christchurch City Libraries will provide the Story Tram - a trip around the city centre on the tram where pre-schoolers and their parents/ caregivers can be entertained with stories and songs - but it is already sold out.

“Last year’s Story Tram was so popular that we have decided to repeat it,” says Vicky Heward, the library’s Promotions and Publications Specialist.

However, for 5-6 year olds who enjoy a good story, there is the opportunity to hear night-time tales at St Martins Children’s Library and Bishopdale Library on 31 May and Papanui Library on 1 June. Snacks will be provided.

Redwood Library is offering “Cool books for cool kids” during the festival. Children and their parents/ caregivers are invited to step into Aladdin’s Cave for a treasure trove of books and spot prizes.

Now in its fifth year, the Books and Beyond Festival will offer these activities free of charge. Event details are available from all libraries, in the Books and Beyond programme and on the Christchurch City Libraries Website - http://library.christchurch.org.nz.
