In Days Gone By - I Ka Ra O Mua
Christchurch City Libraries is to transport residents to days gone by as part of this year’s Books and Beyond Festival that runs from 30 May to 4 June.
Author Harry Evison and historian Terry Ryan will share their knowledge and stories of early Te Wai Pounamu at the Central Library on Friday 1 June from 12.30 - 2pm.
“Harry and Terry are both specialists in their fields,” says Maori Services Librarian Haneta Pierce. “This will be a very valuable session for people engaged in Whakapapa research, students and anyone interested in South Island Iwi.” People interested in local history will also enjoy “Sumner’s bygone days” presented by the Sumner Library on Thursday 31 May. Sumner Museum custodian, Topsy Rule, will explore the area’s rich Maori history and will include details about the moa bone caves at Redcliffs.
