Christchurch City Council Media Release 23 May 2001

Enviable Line-up For Books And Beyond

In association with the Press Books and Beyond Festival the Christchurch City Libraries will present seven hour-long events in association with The Press Books and Beyond Festival.

Featuring national and international writers, the ‘An hour with…’ series will run in the Great Hall at the Arts Centre from Wednesday 30 May to Monday 4 June.

The first session will see Noel Virtue talking with Stevan Eldred-Grigg. Nick Earls will talk with Mike Yardley on Thursday 31 May.

Other interesting combinations will be Roger Horrocks discussing Len Lye; Michael Bassett talking about Peter Fraser; and a session with Barbara and Chris Else which will be chaired by Joe Bennett.

Two panel sessions will round off the series. On Monday 4 June “Boys’ Own” will feature Carl Nixon, James Brown and Chris Else talking about being male and writing fiction. This will be followed by “Inspirational Women” - a panel of women writers reading from the work of women who inspire them.

“These hour long events provide a wonderful balance of interests. There is something for male and female, novel and short-fiction fans, budding biographers and promising poets,” says Christchurch City Libraries’ Promotions and Publications Specialist, Vicky Heward. “The opportunity to hear these authors is not to be missed,” she says.

Each session will cost $2 at the door. Event details are available from all libraries, in the Books and Beyond programme and on the Christchurch City Libraries Website - http://library.christchurch.org.nz.
