Christchurch City Council annual environmental awards
Entries are wanted for the Christchurch City Council annual environmental awards.
This is the fourth year of the awards and suggestions in three categories are sought. These are Services to the Environment, Built Environment and the Natural Environment.
The chairwoman of the Environment Committee, Cr. Anna Crighton, said today that ideas, projects, works buildings individuals or companies could all qualify for entry in the awards. She said the judges took into account the quality of the project or service, the impact on the environment and the degree of innovation. Also considered was the permanency of project, the impact on the city and the positive impact on the City Council’s infrastructure. Cr. Crighton said that a wide range of projects was considered in each category. She said that in past a suburban subdivision won a Built award and the Christchurch Beautifying Society won the Services to the Environment award. They were good examples of the scope of the three awards. One award is considered in each category each year. The awards were presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to the city’s environment, she said. Entries will close on 27 July and judging will take place on 6 August with an award ceremony being held on 28 September.
