Refuse Bag System To Change
Christchurch ratepayers will receive coupons after Easter that they will be able to exchange for rubbish bags.
This marks a change in the system of rubbish bag distribution for the City Council.
Instead of the bags being delivered to individual houses the coupons will be used to obtain rubbish bags from supermarkets, or later at Council service centres.
The supply of 52 bags will not change but the switch to supermarket distribution has been made to counter problems with home deliveries.
Some people have claimed in the past that they have not received their bags when in fact they had. There have been missed deliveries in other cases and theft of the bags was also an issue.
Several methods have been trailed to reduce the delivery problems but they had mixed results.
The new system is expected to reduce these problems.
The new coupons are marked with a bar code and property identification so the Council can track coupons being posted and redeemed.
Landlords will be sent coupons for each rateable property, to the address on the rate demand.
Where properties have more than one dwelling, coupons will need to be redeemed at either a Council service centre or the Councils Pages store in Shuttle Drive.
Ratepayers will receive the coupons in the mail and have until the end of June to exchange them for bags from supermarkets. After that, the bags will be available from service centres.
Coupons can be used only once to collect the full years bags.
