Misleading and Confusing
Part of report in a Press article (2 March, page 3) headed: "Council split on move to ban solid-fuel fires" is confusing and misleading, says the Christchurch City Council Energy Programme Administrator, Michael Gaudin.
The sentence that reads: "Unlike the Christchurch City Councils Helping Hand scheme, it will subsidise people converting to low-emission solid-fuel burners" is incorrect, he says.
Mr Gaudin adds: The Christchurch City Councils Helping Hand and Warmer Homes programmes do subsidise conversions from open fires and coal burners to low-emission solid fuel burners that are authorised by Environment Canterbury for installation in the Christchurch Clean Air Zone.
The City Councils clean-air programmes are being implemented in the most environmentally responsible manner as they emphasise the insulation of houses as a means of reducing the amount of fuels burnt and emissions to atmosphere.
