Ministers To Address Mayors


Two Cabinet Ministers will address a three-day meeting of the nation-wide Mayors Taskforce for Jobs at the end of the month.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development, Jim Anderton, and the Minister of Employment, Steve Maharey, will speak on the final day at the meeting at Manukau City Council offices from 27-29 March. The general manager of the Wellington-based Community Employment Group, Charlie Moore, will speak on Tuesday 27 March and the second day will be concerned with discussions about the group's strategy for this year.

On the final day speakers will include Professor Ian Shirley, the Director of the Institute of Public Policy, Auckland University of Technology, Sandi Morrison, the co-ordinator of the Central Auckland Local Employment Co-ordination Group, Ngapo Wehi, of Pounamu Training, Warren Snow of the Zero Waste Trust, and Geoff Chappell, of the Te Araroa Trust.

Also speaking will be the Mayor of Waitakere, Bob Harvey on creating jobs in the Eco City.

The two ministers will finish the final day's discussions.
