Christchurch City Council Media Release 16 March 2001

Biggest Sports Winter Guide Yet

The first comprehensive Winter Sports Guide has been produced by the Christchurch City Council.

City Council’s Leisure has compiled the guide and the 50,000 copies will be given away free to anyone interested in sport.

The inaugural guide covers the upcoming winter season and it will be followed by a summer sports version in September. From then on Leisure’s Sports Promotion Team will publish two editions a year.

"It could be said to be a type of sports bible. It is something we have been keen to produce for sometime and it will replace the various lift-outs that have appeared in community newspapers in previous years," says Chris Wallace of the Sports Promotion Team.

The 50-page guide includes a map of all sports grounds, and Ms Slater says it will be of use not only to sports people and supporters but parents who are involved in sport through their children.

It gives all details of sport contacts and a great deal of other information for the winter season.

It is also an easy reference for sports and points out that there are about 1200 sporting clubs and associations in Christchurch.

The guide is free from all sports shops, sports associations, secondary schools and clubs, secondary schools and copies can be obtained from Leisure on 941 6480.

Photo opportunity: The guide will be launched on Monday 19 March at 2.15pm at Rugby Park at the Crusaders’ news media conference.

Further information: Chris Wallace: 941 6443 or Melissa Slater: 941 8776 or 025 232 7541.
