Youth Insights Into China
Insights of China through the eyes of young Kiwis will be given at a special meeting in Christchurch on Thursday 28 June.
Four Christchurch high school students, who visited Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province, which is a Sister City of Christchurch, along with a teacher, will relate their experiences after four weeks of living in Chinese homes.
The four who spent April in Lanzhou are Laura Ash (Lincoln High School), Petra Guse (Christchurch GHS), Michael Summerfield (Shirley Boys’), and Felicity Taylor (also Lincoln High). They went with Ray Nicholson, a teacher of Chinese at Christchurch Boys’ High School. They stayed in homes of high school students of Lanzhou who had stayed in Christchurch in February. The exchange is an annual event with Christchurch and Chinese students staying in each other’s houses as part of the Christchurch City Council Sister City arrangement. At the meeting on 28 June at Aldersgate, Durham Street, at 7.30pm the Christchurch students will talk about their experiences, their observations and their adventures. They will also answer questions and show their photographs. The public is invited and there will be a gold coin collection.
