Speaker From Tough Background
A man who has worked in prisons and with gangs but now is mostly concerned with Maori children and families is to speak at a Community Development Hui in Christchurch next week.
Sam Chapman, the director of Houhanga Rongo, based in Otara, will speak on Friday 6 July at the Nga Hau E Wha national Marae, Pages Road.
The hui will be held from 10am to 3pm. Mr. Chapman has 23 years experience in community development in Porirua, Turangi, Howick and Otara. He recently appeared on TV1’s Face the Nation to discuss Maori children’s welfare. The Houhanga Rongo Awhina Project focuses on Maori children and families.
