De Bono to lead local think tank
The man who coined the term ‘lateral thinking’, Dr Edward de Bono, will be in Christchurch later this month to lead the world’s largest ever workshop on creative thinking.
More than 8000 people will gather in the Westpac Trust Centre on Tuesday 31 July to join in the free ‘Big Think’ workshop, including Mayor Garry Moore who will introduce Dr de Bono.
The workshop is aimed at students, intermediate age and upwards. Murray Bain, head of Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology School of Business (CIPT), a sponsor of the event, said it was a great opportunity for students. “Whatever they do in business, students need creative thinking skills, and the capacity to innovate.” Schools had received invitations. Mr Bain said tertiary students from Canterbury, Lincoln, Christchurch College of Education and Christchurch Polytechnic had responded positively. Tickets are available to the public on a ‘first-come, first served’ basis. They can be picked up from the downstairs reception at the Christchurch City Council offices in Tuam Street, or the Polytechnic’s Welcome Desk in the Rakaia Building at the Madras Street campus.
