Mayor to start Square chats
Citizens can have informal chats with Christchurch’s Mayor, Garry Moore, in Cathedral Square each Friday from next week.
The Mayor’s first “meet-the-citizens” appearance on a park bench, especially painted red and black, will be at noon on Friday 2 February.
A ratepayer gave Mr. Moore a proper soapbox when the scheme was first announced last year but Mr Moore has decided he wants to chat rather than debate.
The bench will be placed near the entrance to the Canterbury and Christchurch Marketing Ltd. offices in the old Chief Post Office.
“Any subject can be raised,” says Mr Moore.
“I am looking forward to this close contact with ratepayers and other citizens. I think it is important for me to have these types of conversations. It is important that I know the feelings of the citizens.”
The hour-long session will be held every Friday, weather permitting.
