Duluxe Boy's dance music to liven up Square
SummerTimes Free Lunchtime Concert
Friday 2 February 2001, 12.30pm to 2.00pm
Cathedral Square
Duluxeboy has a unique style characterised by catchy melodies, rich vocal harmonies, and distinctive guitar tones. The influence of dance music is apparent in the polished original compositions performed by this four piece ensemble. Duluxeboy is Matt Barus (lead vocals and guitar) and Jo Barus (bass, percussion and vocals), Tim McLeod (guitar, keyboard and vocals), and Graham Jackson (drums). The band started out in 1996 when brothers Matt and Jo Barus, teamed up with Devin
Abrams (now saxophonist for Shapeshifter) and Adrian Palmer (now drummer for
Zed). Tim McLeod joined the band as lead guitarist and keyboard player in
1997, and Graham Jackson replaced Adrian Palmer on drums. Three years making regular live appearances at Christchurch venues, along with playing support for well known bands including Stereobus, Salmonella Dub, and Zed, has made Duluxeboy well known for their pop rock sound, and wide audience appeal. The band also released a new single
Shadowboxer, which was included on the Brat Records compilation "Brat II The Bride of Brat" released in October 2000. The SummerTimes Lunchtime Concert Series continues in Cathedral Square from 12.30pm to 2.00pm every Friday until 2 March.
