Sensational Sparks to Farewell Summer

Jonathon Brooke DensemNorth Hagley Park will explode with music and fireworks on Saturday March 3rd for the grand finale of this years SummerTimes festival, Rick Armstrong Motors Classical Sparks.

This year the Christchurch Symphony will be joined by the Christchurch City Choir, Angela Johnson, Jonathon Brooke Densem and Jennine Bailey.

Angela Johnson is originally from Ashburton but has lived in Australia for many years, performing in high profile musicals such as Cats, Chess, and Fiddler on The Roof. She has just completed a 16 month Australian national tour of The Sound of Music. Angela sings From A Distance, made famous by Bette Midler, and I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables.

Jonathon Brooke Densem harks from Christchurch and in addition to his singing abilities, he is also a talented actor, having spent several years with The Court Theatre. Moving between Australia and New Zealand, Jonathon has performed recently in Jesus Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon and Les Miserables, from which the song he performs on Saturday called Stars comes from. Jonathon will also sing Luck Be Lady Tonight from Guys and Dolls.

Jennine Bailey is a professional jazz vocalist who recently appeared in the Christchurch Jazz Festival, and the Otago Festival of the Arts. A vocal tutor and graduate of the Christchurch Polytechnic Jazz School, she will be singing the classic Summertime from Porgy and Bess.

The Christchurch City Choir was formed in 1991. Musical Director Brian Law has developed in them a broad range of musical style and language, and their skills will take centre stage in such numbers as the Carmen Overture by Bizet and the ever popular 1812 by Tchaikovsky.

Audience members may receive their final SummerTimes Passport stamp between 4pm and 7.30pm. During interval the lucky passport will be drawn. The winner will receive a brand new SEAT Cordoba 4 door from Rick Armstrong Motors.
