Musical Boundaries scaled by ‘Side Winder’ in Cathedral Square 

SummerTimes Free Lunchtime Concert

Friday 9 February 2001,
12.30pm to 2.00pm

Cathedral Square

‘Side Winder’ is a five piece band specializing in bebop, contemporary, and acid jazz.

Named after a boggaloo beat song written by Lee Morgan, ‘Sidewinder’ will perform in Cathedral Square on Friday 9.

‘Side Winder’ is led by seasoned performer Simon Kay on trumpet, joined by leading jazz musicians Rueben Derrick, currently based in Sydney on Tenor sax, and Johnny Lawrence

on acoustic guitar and electric bass. The band also includes two musicians who have recently returned to New Zealand having gained overseas experience. Drummer Dan Kennedy has been performing on a New York based cruise ship, and Ben Gerard, a leading keyboard player, returns from Amsterdam.

The SummerTimes Lunchtime Concert Series continues in Cathedral Square from 12.30pm to 2.00pm every Friday until 2 March.
