Moves To Improve Park
Ideas are being sought from Aranui residents to improve Wainoni Park.
The public consultation by the Parks and Waterways Unit of the Christchurch City Council is part of the Aranui Community Renewal Project, which is a joint project between the Council and Housing New Zealand. The project’s primary aim is to enhance Aranui as a good place to live. One aspect of the work is concentrating on producing a concept plan for Wainoni Park. Shortcomings already identified in the park are that the area behind the Hampshire Street shops is unattractive and not perceived as safe, poor access, lack of visibility and the need for more recreation facilities. Toilets are due for replacement in two years. The unit has sent out questionnaires to Aranui residents seeking comments about the park by the end of March.
