Canterburys most popular big jazz band, the Garden City Big Band, will perform a mixture of jazz, disco, and rock music, in Cathedral Square on Friday 2 March.
Formed in 1992, The Garden City Big Bands aim is to promote big band music, old and new, to a wide age range of New Zealand citizens. The slick rhythm section accompanied by 2 versatile singers, perform a wide variety of music which covers everything from Jelly-Roll Morton to Madonna, Glenn Miller to Saturday Night Fever.
Late last year the Garden City Big Band released a CD. Their style and high class of musicianship, has recently earned the band an invitation to attend the Honolulu International Jazz Festival in July this year, so all 18 band members are currently doing lots of fundraising for the trip.
This concert concludes the SummerTimes Free Lunchtime Concert Series.
