Plenty To Do At Parenting Week
About 30 seminars and workshops will be held at part of Parenting Week from 3-9 September.
The week, co-ordinated by the Christchurch City Council, will also include family activities, such as walks, the telling of children’s stories, and a special play day.
Pre-school story times will be held at City Council libraries and various special displays and exhibitions will be held around the city.
The Council’s Children’s Advocate, Lyn Campbell, says that quality parenting builds strong healthy families who bring stability and value to communities - and Christchurch becomes an even better place to live.
“It’s not easy being a parent. Parents need all the support and encouragement they can get,” she says.
She says the week’s theme is “Future proofing your child” and focuses on the assistance and resources available to parents.
Brochures are available from Council libraries or service centres, and information can also be found online at www.ccc.govt.nz/events/ParentingWeek/2001/.
