Orkid to replace Lindon Puffin in Cathedral Square Lunchtime Concert

FREE Friday Lunchtime Concert,

Cathedral Square,

August 10, 12.30 to 1.30pm

Three piece independent rock band Orkid will replace the scheduled performance by Lindon Puffin this Friday lunchtime in Cathedral Square.

Ren, Danks, and Gilbert pump out what they call ‘Marvel Mass Rock’ to live music fans all over New Zealand. They are currently touring the country to promote a new CD which they begin recording this week.

" It’s a self-funded, self-recorded project" says the bands guitarist/vocalist Gilbert of the as yet untitled 15 track recording. He confesses touring is expensive and "a necessary evil with a great end – although it drives us all insane!"

Gilbert also admits that live bands that are not dance bands, struggle in New Zealand. "Internationally audiences are just much more interested in live rock music".

Orkid team up with fellow rockers Degrees K and Clowndog on a regular basis, and they have recently enjoyed some great performances together, and especially appreciate the support they are getting from youth. " Their minds are just much more open to different styles of music" says Gilbert.

He feels and all ages venue would be a great idea for Christchurch.

The Friday Lunchtime Concert in Cathedral Square is a FREE event presented by Christchurch City Council Leisure.
