Mayoral Tea Party For Backchat

Backchat, a world champion barbershop quartet from Cashmere High School, will take tea with Christchurch’s Mayor Garry Moore next week.

The students - Beth Campbell, Ruth Hope, Nicole Campbell and Hannah Calder - won the Sweet Adelines International Rising Star Competition prize in Texas earlier this month. They had a score of 194 out of the possible 200.

The quartet has been invited to perform in Portland, Oregon, in two months and the four members now have to decide whether they can combine their singing careers with bursary examinations at the end of the year.

The four will meet the Mayor on Wednesday 29 August at 3pm for afternoon tea for a mayoral welcome back to the city.
