Candidates Named On Monday
As more nominations have been received for the Christchurch local body elections on 13 October than were expected, details of most candidates will not be released until Monday.
Many of the nominations were received close to the deadline at noon today.
The Electoral Officer, Max Robertson, said today that staff would work throughout the weekend preparing the lists of candidates for the City Council, Community Boards, the regional council (Environment Canterbury), and the Canterbury District Health Board. Mr. Robertson said all nominations had to be checked for eligibility to stand as candidates. Fourteen candidates for the mayoral election were announced earlier today. Postal voting papers will be delivered between Friday 21 September until Wednesday 26 September. Voting will close at noon on Saturday 13 October and preliminary results will be available as soon as practicable after that. The official declaration of the vote will be made about Saturday 20 October.
