Townhouse Dwellers Happy People
Most townhouse dwellers have told the Christchurch City Council that they are satisfied with their houses.
Also they say they are happy with their lifestyle.
This suggests that the Councils City Plan housing policy, that promotes in-fill development, is reflecting the current housing needs of a growing proportion of city residents.
This conclusion comes from the results of a survey of townhouse residents last year. The survey investigated attitudes to in-fill development in suburban residential areas and whether people living in townhouses were generally satisfied with that form of housing.
Initial results from the survey show that most residents in townhouses are aged from 35 to more than 55 years and the majority owns their townhouses.
Most townhouses are occupied by a couple (34.8 per cent of respondents) and 21.6 per cent live alone.
Seventy per cent of respondents set out to get a townhouse and nearly half of them had a specific location in mind. More than 70 per cent did not want a back section but slightly less ended up living on back sections.
Satisfaction with townhouses was high. About 90 per cent said they were satisfied with type, location, and size of their houses.
More than 80 per cent were satisfied with their outdoor areas, and of those living on back sections 90 per cent said they were satisfied with their houses.
