Christchurch City Council Media Release 19 Sept 2000

Warning About Poison Spread

Poison is to be used at the South Shore spit reserve and a warning is being issued to pet owners about it.

Christchurch City Council’s Coast Care said today that a rabbit control operation would start on Monday 9 October and finish on Friday 20 October.

Pindone pellets will be used in the operation and warning signs will be erected at all entry points a week before the operation starts.

A Coast Care ranger, Mark Ross, says that dogs should be kept out of the area during the operation.

Mr Ross says that if it is suspected that a dog has come into contact with the poison or rabbit carcass owners should contract a vet.

Flyers are being issued to householders in the district.
