Christchurch City Council Media Release 28 September 2000

Blueprint For Reviving Christchurch’s Heart

Christchurch’s Mayor, Garry Moore, launched a discussion document called "Central City – The Vision," today.

The document has been produced by the Mayoral Forum for the Central City – a group working on the revitalisation of the central city area.

Details of the forum’s ideas for the future are contained in the document that contains a questionnaire for residents. Questionnaires should be returned to the Christchurch City Council by November 30.

The document will be available at Christchurch City Council service centres, libraries, and the Civic Offices. It will also be available from some private outlets that will be advised later.

From today a series of public meetings with residents and interest groups will be ongoing. These meetings will continue until late November when two open meetings will be held at the Convention Centre.

The Mayor says in the document "we don’t have all the answers when it comes to improving the central city. That’s where your suggestions and ideas are vital.

"Christchurch already enjoys landmarks such as Victoria Square, City Mall, Worcester Boulevard and the Arts Centre because of the decisions made in the past to improve our central city. Now we need to build on these assets to create a new set of ideas and uses that also meet the changing needs of our community, business, education and lifestyles."
