Christchurch City Council Media Release 17 April 2000

Prize For One Millionth Shuttle Passenger

The one-millionth passenger on Christchurch’s Innovative Hybrid/Electric Shuttle service will be rewarded later this month.

It is estimated that the one-millionth passenger will be counted on Friday April 28 around noon.

A ceremony to reward the lucky one-millionth, once found, will be held outside Smiths City Ltd, 550 Colombo Street, where Red Bus Ltd and Smiths City will hand over an Aiwa mini-stereo system.

Two days before reaching the one-millionth passenger Red Bus will hold celebratory street theatre where lollipops and other goodies will be given away.

The free Shuttle that runs around part of the central city (from Moorhouse Avenue in the south to Armagh Street in the north) was started in December 1998 with three bright futuristic yellow buses.
