Principal And School To Clean Up Their World

The pupils of Wainoni Primary School, led by its principal, Jack Morris, are taking Clean Up The World very seriously this year.

Mr Morris and large groups of his pupils will be walking up and down Hampshire Street, Aranui, every day of the week from 18-22 September (wet or fine) collecting litter as they go. They will concentrate on the shopping area.
They will all wear Clean Up The World bibs and carry a banner, which will proclaim “Wainoni Kids Care.”
Wainoni Primary School is dedicated to clearing up litter and, in fact, organises a clean up at school each day with pupils belonging to “The Happy Bucket Brigade.”
Every year Clean Up The World Week is held in conjunction with the United Nations’ environment programme and aims to mobilise millions of volunteers in more than 100 countries around the world. They undertake a wide range of environmental activities.
The week started in New Zealand in Christchurch in 1993 by Keep Christchurch Beautiful and Marine Watch. It has grown each year since and last year more than 90 groups took part.
The week aims to trigger long-term changes in attitudes and behaviour and to foster practices to reduce waste.
