A Christchurch Polytechnic an artwork with a drinking fountain with a drinking fountain for the new Centennial Leisure Centre.

Pippin Wright-Stow prepared the concept under the supervision of Bing Dawe of the Polytech and the Christchurch City Council’s senior landscape architect, Dennis Preston.

It will stand about 3m high in metal, stainless steel and glass and it will be durable to combat vandalism. The work of art will incorporate two drinking bowls, the lower one for children.

The Council’s project and property committee today approved the $50,000 project. This includes a $20,000 grant from Brierley Investments Ltd.

The Council’s mayor projects co-ordinator, Mark Noonan, told the committee that a number of sketch plans were considered but the cost was prohibitive.

Thom Craig of Warren and Mahoney, architects for the new Centennial Pool approved the concept.
