A former Cabinet Minister, involved in an accident in which he opened a car door in front of a cyclist, has sent a special message for the launch of a car-door opening campaign tomorrow.
Philip Burdons message will be read at the launch at the Christchurch City Council offices, Tuam Street, tomorrow, Thursday 15 June at 10am.
One of the speakers will be Chrissie Williams, the chairwoman of the Burwood-Pegasus Community Board, who was the cyclist involved in the car-door accident.
The campaign aims to encourage drivers to look before opening doors and to encourage cyclists to ride defensively.
Special stickers will be unveiled and the City Council fleet will be the first to have the stickers applied. Other organisations have indicated they will use the stickers on their vehicles.
