Other Cell-Phone Sites To Be Investigated
Other sites for a Fendalton cell-phone tower will be investigated, as Telecom has decided not proceed at present with the Normans Road site.
Christchurch City Councillor Ron Wright said he was pleased with the positive way in which residents, Council staff and Telecom are working together to consider alternative sites for a tower.
Council officers met Telecom representatives today to discuss the alternatives to the cell site in Normans Road.
He said Telecom had put construction of the site on hold although it had all necessary equipment and consents.
Telecom showed a willingness to investigate other sites in the area, which met the technical requirements.
Telecom provided a range of information about the alternative technologies as a means of providing improved coverage in the Fendalton area.
A Telecom engineer will prepare a detailed technical explanation of these limitations by next week.
Council planners have agreed to meet representatives of the City Councils Property Unit to investigate the possibility of establishing the facility on Council reserves and parks in accordance with the Council policy supporting such an approach.
The option of using other Council-owned land would also be explored, Cr. Wright said.
