Christchurch City Council Media Release 20 October 2000

Park and Track Closures due to Last Week's Storm

The public is requested to keep out of the following parks and tracks, which have been affected because of last week's storm. All of the closed areas are signed and taped off.

  1. The Sumner to Taylors Mistake Walkway is closed for repairs, with tree damage, rock fall, erosion and instability hazards. The partial closure is from adjacent to the end of Scarborough Rd down to Taylors Mistake carpark.
  2. South Brighton Park remains closed because of fallen and hanging trees, and tree felling operational hazards. Heavy machinery is being used in the Park.
  3. The rabbit poisoning operation at the Southshore Spit has been extended for another week because of weather delays. The Spit Reserve should be open again from Friday the 27th of October.

Enquiries can be made to the Parks Unit on 03 941 6840 or The Coast Care Office on 03 3821678
