Launch of Central City - Fresh Perspectives Photography Competition and Exhibition
Launched today is an exciting competition for Christchurch photographers, both amateur and professional.
In the spirit of the revitalisation of the Central City, this competition "Central City - Fresh Perspectives" and its resulting exhibition aims to encourage the people of Christchurch to look at their Central City with a fresh eye over the next month.
Mayor Garry Moore says,
"Right now is the right time to capture the heart of the city on film - warts and all. We will then have a record of our central city at the beginning of its revitalisation, reflecting its strengths, its concerns, its potential and its unique character." |
Partners in the project are the Central City Mayoral Forum in Association with Christchurch City Council, Christchurch and Canterbury Marketing Ltd and the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography.
"Photographing our Central City is a great idea. With our new visitor centre in the Square, we are right in the heart of the city and we're fully behind the campaign to bring a fresh perspective on, and quality imagery of our city to the world." |
Darryll Park - Chief Executive, CCM.
The wining entries and finalists will be publicly exhibited alongside the NZIPP's Iris Awards Touring Print Exhibition in the historic Old Chief Post Office building adjacent to CCM in the Square from 2-17 December.
"The Institute of
Professional Photography welcomes the opportunity to encourage more people to get involved
with photography. One way is to take shots for this competition whether as a professional
or casually for enjoyment. Another is to go to the exhibition of the winning prints which will be exhibited alongside the Institute's Iris Awards Touring Print - an exhibition of 20% of this year's the top prints from our annual print judging competition." |
Richard Poole - Chairman Honours Council - NZIPP
