Art Car Becoming Covered

The Christchurch Mayor’s Art Car has now changed its appearance in a big way.

Garry Moore wants his Art Car - a 1965 Vanden Plas Princess R - to inject some fun into the city. The car is being decorated by artists in the front window of the Centre of Contemporary Art, Gloucester Street, at present.

The gallery window is alive with activity as artists come and go to install their art works on the car.

One work not yet installed is that by Willy (Kevin Wills) of the Black Rose Tattoo Emporium, 380 Ferry Road. Willy is using tattoos to show the history of tattooing over the 20th century and his work will be installed on the inside door panels of the Art Car.

Works installed include those of Sam Eng (nude toys on the ceiling), Versace buttons on the dash by George Chimiri, and miniature gnomes by Jewell Lewis.

Further information: Henry Sunderland: 349 5396 (ext 834) or 326 6033 (AH) or Warren Feeney, CoCA (who has a diary of artists at work): 366 7261.
