Last Weekend For Market - Trial A Success

This is the final weekend (29/30 April) of the trial for the fresh produce market, CanterburyFare@The Arts Centre . The trial was set up to ascertain whether there was demand for a fresh produce market in the city centre. Indications are that the market has been popular with tourists and locals alike.

Located on the grassed area outside the Court Theatre at the Arts Centre, the Market has been operating from 9am every Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting) since Saturday 4 March.

Stallholder Barry Anderson, of Graham's Gaelic Bread says "As the market has continued the number of regular shoppers has increased - these are local people enthusiastic about being able to purchase the range of produce which is on offer in one place. The Market has a great atmosphere, similar to that of an English village, with people enjoying the social aspect of shopping - taking time to talk with the stallholders about their products."

The Market offers high quality produce grown largely in the Canterbury region. The produce on offer ranges from a variety of breads, cheese, organic fruit and vegetables to bratwurst, flowers and delicatessen items.

The Market is designed for both local residents and tourists alike. Uniquely this Market has a virtual side through the website, www.canterburyfare.co.nz, through which many of the products, which are available at The Arts Centre, can be purchased.

Central City Board Chairman, Mayor, Garry Moore, says "The Market trial has been a great success showing there is strong interest from both residents ands visitors to the city centre. The Central City Board congratulates all those involved with the trial and will review its success closely."

After this weekend several of the stalls may be found located in with the Craft Market also located at The Arts Centre continuing to provide fresh produce to residents and tourists.
