Korean Women to Lay Wreaths at Cenotaph
Fifty-five women Korean students, in Christchurch to learn English, will place wreaths on the Cenotaph in Cathedral Square on Friday to honour New Zealand troops who fought in the Korean War.
The students, aged from 20 to 26, are from Sookmyung Womens University in Seoul and have been in Christchurch for four weeks.
They are studying English and community studies.
They asked if they could lay a number of wreaths in recognition of the New Zealand servicemen who served in the Korean War.
Christchurchs Deputy Mayor, Lesley Keast, will take part in the ceremony along with two of the Seoul university staff, and five teachers from the Christchurch Polytechnic.
Also in attendance will be a number of Korean War veterans, along with representatives of the New Zealand Korean Veterans Association and a representative of the local Korean Society.
The ceremony will be held on Friday 21 July in Cathedral Square at 11am.
