Christchurch City Council Media Release 26 July 2000

Flag At Half Mast For Soldier

The Christchurch City Council will fly the New Zealand flag at half-mast on the day of the funeral of Private Leonard Manning.

Private Manning, aged 24, of Bravo Company, 2nd/1st Battalion, based at Burnham, was killed in East Timor while serving with the New Zealand peacekeeping force.

Members of the public have asked the Council if it will show the respects of the city in lowering the flag on the day of Private Manning’s funeral and the Mayor, Garry Moore, ruled that it be done.

No date has been set for the funeral.
