Exciting Housing Move
A partnership between the Christchurch City Council and Housing New Zealand has been hailed as an "exciting move forward."
The City Councils Property Manager, Rob Dally, said this yesterday when addressing the Community Services Committee meeting yesterday.
He said a meeting had been held among Housing NZ, the Ministry of Housing, and the City Council to discuss ways in which the groups could work to "achieve enhanced affordable housing outcomes in Christchurch."
Mr Dally said it was clear that there were a number of areas of common interest and that it would be beneficial to work in partnership.
The Councils housing working party was delighted with "the tenor of the meeting and the eagerness for central government, through Housing NZ, to work in partnership with the Council " Mr Dally said.
The committee will recommend to the Council that a partnership is formed between the Council and Housing NZ and three projects are initiated. They are a housing need assessment project, community renewal strategy for Aranui, and a joint tenant charter.
Mr Dally said it was marvellous that such progress had been made.
