Big Party Set to Launch Neighbourhood Week
Christchurch City Councillor Sue Wells promises a bumper party full of music, inspiration and fun at the Town Hall next Tuesday.
For then she will hold a get-together of representatives of neighbourhood support groups throughout the city to prepare for Neighbourhood Week at the end of October.
A "neighbourhood orchestra and massed choir" will launch a new song, Cr. Wells said today. "The choir might have to be a couple of Councillors but they will be making plenty of noise," she said.
The song, Fifty Ways to Lose Your Lover, has been adapted to Fifty Ways to Meet Your Neighbour.
The whole event will be designed as a big party. "The emphasis will be on fun with hand-clapping and foot-stomping. I hope to have the town hall packed and involve plenty of kids as well as all the neighbourhood groups," she said.
Cr. Wells said the event had a dual purpose: to launch the concept of Neighbourhood Week and to introduce Jacqui Goodwin from Wanganui, who speak about getting people to know their neighbours.
Ms Goodwin had experience working with communities in Britain and this country, Cr. Wells said.
Afternoon tea will be provided at the function that will start at 4pm on Tuesday 25 July.
All Neighbourhood Support Group co-ordinators are invited to the meeting and they can bring others who are interested.
Cr. Wells said the event will last about an hour with the "mix and mingle of people" and coffee and cake.
